I was born in Venezuela and raised on the Caribbean island of Curaçao, where I learned to appreciate the quiet beauty of home.
Long before I understood architecture or interior design, I was constantly rearranging my bedroom, painting furniture, and imagining how small changes could completely transform the way a space felt.
At the time, I thought I simply loved decorating.
Looking back, I realize I was designing as an act of care long before I had the words for it.
When I moved to South Florida as a teenager, I experienced what it meant to leave one home behind and build another. Adjusting to a new country, culture, and way of life showed me how deeply our surroundings influence our sense of comfort, identity, and belonging.
That realization led me to study architecture.
Architecture taught me to understand structure, proportion, light, and the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit. But throughout my journey, I became increasingly passionate about what happens after the walls are built — how interiors shape routines, support wellbeing, and tell the story of the people who live there.
That is why I founded Valerie Toro Design Studio.
